About the College
- The College of Nursing at CMC Vellore traces its roots back to 1909, when the first “Lower Grade Nursing Course for girls” began.
- The graduate nursing (basic B.Sc. Nursing) course at CMC Vellore started in 1946 — making it the first such College of Nursing in India.
- Over decades, the college has expanded to offer a wide range of nursing and allied‑health training: undergraduate, postgraduate (M.Sc), diplomas, post‑basic courses, and specialty diplomas.
- The institution was founded under the vision of Ida S. Scudder, whose mission was to train Indian women (initially) as nurses and doctors to serve women and children — motivated by social and healthcare needs in early 20th‑century India.
