About the College
- CIP is a premier national-government mental-health institute, operated by the Government of India.
- Historically established on 17 May 1918 (originally as “Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum”), it has evolved over decades into a comprehensive centre for mental health treatment, education, research, and training.
- Apart from medical/psychiatry courses (MD, PG Diploma, etc.), CIP also offers courses in psychiatric nursing — including a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing (post-basic / specialized nursing) through its Department of Psychiatric Nursing.
- The psychiatric nursing program combines clinical exposure (hospital wards, psychiatric units) with academic/theoretical instruction — giving students hands-on training in mental health nursing, rehabilitative care, psychosocial treatment, and patient counselling.
